Since arriving at Rijks my painting practice has taken on familiar themes of past series (Inner city youth culture, family, love, globalization and crime.) However the works take on a new direction, moving from realism to surrealism. The new series takes the same themes from past, but rather than placing it in our world, it builds a new chaotic world where everything collides into one across varying degrees of realism. The change in direction was inspired by both the feeling that trying to explain the collective realities lived in different places couldn’t effectively be done within realism, as well as “Chaos Theory” a scientific theory that describes at which point stability moves to instability or order moves to disorder.
