Listening session

Walls got ears

entrance free, RSVP here

Join us for 'Walls got ears', an exploration of the chances of sound and communication that comes out of instant collaborations and unplanned incidents. Through the discipline of listening, the event will consist of poetry, sound, and musician improvisation. Pricked, we call to organise to gather and listen. Hear ear!

'Walls got ears' has grown out of this current crop of Rijksakademie residents and staff. The event in question has been well-organised precisely because of its spontaneity. The organisers are current resident, filmmaker, and sound artist Abdo Zin Eldin and Archibald Hyde, an artist and writer based in Amsterdam. The event unfolds in three distinct acts, each offering an immersive experience centered around listening.

Programme:
19.00 – Spoken poetry, featuring five artists and poets: Bas Magnee, Archibald Hyde, Sanae Oujjit, Elliot Charura, and Polina Elster.

19.40 – Music and sound improvisation led by Galalalive featuring Jochem Zaag and Diego Canada. Together, the ensemble invites the audience into a world of spontaneous sonic exploration, based on sensitive listening.

20.20 – The final act is a collective sound jam session, where the audience is encouraged to actively participate. Whether through sounds, words, or tones, creating a truly collaborative and dynamic experience.

GalalaLive

Founded by Abdo Zin Eldin, GalalaLive is a dynamic sound collective with its members shifting for each performance, blending Egypt’s marginalised sounds from spiritual festivals, raves, and processions with contemporary sound artists to revive those sounds through new forms and unfamiliar performances. It features Jochem Zaag, a scientist and performing artist and a bassist who explores philosophical and experimental themes through music and Diego Canada, a saxophonist and composer known for his profound sound and deep connection with the audience.

Archibald Hyde

Artist and writer based in Amsterdam. After seeing the good work done in the previous incarnations of this project, Archibald Hyde has invited his friends who want to use the discipline of poetry to further their artistic work.
