Hsu Che-Yu obtained a master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts, Tainan National University of the Arts (Taiwan). Since 2019, he had participated in the residency program in HISK (Ghent, 2019–2020) and Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains (Tourcoing, 2020–2022). Hsu works as an artist who primarily creates animations, videos, and installations that feature the relations between media and memories. What matters to the artist is not simply the history of events traceable through media, but also the construction and visualization of memories, be they private or collective.

Hsu has solo exhibitions at Liang Gallery (Taipei, 2022), Vanguard Gallery (Shanghai, 2020), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2015), Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (Taipei, 2012), SAT Society for Arts and Technology (Montreal, 2012). He has participated in the Bienal de São Paulo (2021), Seoul Mediacity Biennale (2021), Sonsbeek20→24 Quadrennial public program (2021), Actually the Dead Are Not Dead: Techniques of Becoming (Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart, 2021), VIDEONALE.18 (2021), Shanghai Biennale (2018), London Design Biennale (2018), Asian Art Biennial (Taichung, 2017), and film festivals IFFR International Film Festival Rotterdam (2023, 2022, 2020, 2018), NYFF New York Film Festival (2020). He was awarded Videonale Award of the Fluentum Collection (Kunstmuseum Bonn, 2021), Loop Barcelona Video Art Production Award (Han Nefkens Foundation, 2020), Taishin Annual Grand Prize (Taishin Bank Foundation for Arts and Culture, 2016), Finalist for HUGO BOSS ASIA ART (2019).

    There will be no ticket sales at the door. Tickets can be only purchased online.

    • Tickets: €12.50
    • Discount tickets €6.25 (Student-, CJP, Amsterdam City Card)
    • Free entrance: children up to 12 years


    Please bring your discount card with you to the entrance.

  • The Rijksakademie is located in the former Kavallerie-Kazerne, near the centre of Amsterdam. The building is situated next to the Muiderpoort, close to the Tropenmuseum and ARTIS and within easy reach of the NS stations.

    The Weesperplein Metro station is a 7-minute walk from the Rijksakademie. Tram 7, 14 and 19 stop in front of the door (Alexanderplein stop). Find more detailed directions at the bottom of our contact page.

    Please note that there is no possibility to park your car or bike on our premises.

  • The building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of project space North on the fourth floor. The accessible toilet is located on the second floor.

  • There is no cloakroom at the Rijksakademie. Handbags are allowed if they are smaller than A4. Unfortunately, there is no room for backpacks. A limited number of lockers is available at the entrance.

    It’s not allowed to bring food and drinks inside the building. There are different snacks and drinks available at the Rijksakademie courtyard, which you can enjoy there.

    Dogs are not allowed, with the exception of service dogs.

  • For environmental reasons, we are offering limited printed floor plans of the building. You can access our digital floor plan via the QR code that you can scan with your phone at the entrance. from 29 May, it will also be possible to download a printable version of the floor plan.
