YP Yuanpu Wang (CN/US/NL) is an artist and visual researcher exploring speculative light ecologies. He documents light as a living entity through digital art, installations, sculptures, photography and speculative methods. His practice bridges natural phenomena, gaming aesthetics, and environmental consciousness to reimagine human-light relationships. Speculative light ecology (SLE) is a term YP created as a framework for imagining post-light-pollution futures. SLE is a practice of worldbuilding and constructing a realm of parallel timelines in order to look at light beyond conventional lenses.
For his tech fellowship, YP plans on exploring the hybrid space between digital light aesthetics and physical light apparatuses available in the Media Lab. By treating pixels (digital light units) and photons (physical light particles) as collaborators, he aims to develop techniques for translating the “magical light” of games into embodied installations.
