Baha Görkem Yalım

Resident 2024-2026
Baha Görkem Yalım is a visual artist, writer, and educator. Görkem's praxis is multidisciplinary and defined by being purposefully in flux, refusing to crystallise in any one form or medium, consequently attending the moment of gathering and collision -whether it be exhibition, staging, or publishing- as their concern. They employ video, sculpture, and performance, sometimes in variations and always as folds of one and the same practice. In all its variations, things come together towards durational proposals and are radically allowed to appear as themselves. Görkem's search is deeply tied to literature, its readings, re-readings, and misreadings. Objecthood, abstraction, desire, sleep, and contamination are frequently thematised concepts, interrogated through the lenses of labour and gender within an infrastructural critique framework, with abolition as the primary intent, often summoning questions of language in a form. These open questions come together in a desire to diminish art and artist as unified ontological categories.
